The Videotherapy Program and All Associated Courses are Conducted in Hebrew.

At Ma'aleh's first-of-its-kind Videotherapy Center,
our staff and students are working with at risk-youth, minorities,
new immigrants, trauma victims, special needs groups, and others
who are helped and healed by using filmmaking as a form of expression.

With a specially trained staff team that includes
both a therapist and a filmmaker, the participants
learn to create their own films, exploring their own stories and issues,
and discovering what their stories mean to them.
Throughout the process, they learn about their
internal world, and find powerful ways to address their issues.

Cinema is the most powerful tool to tell the story of our lives.
We watch a story, then see it again and are amazed to discover things we had not noticed before.
The film allows us to bring our life story to the screen and share it in public.
Through film it is possible to change our story and build a new reality.
Film allows victims to become heroes.
Film allows a sense of control over one’s life and the power to rebuild it.

The Ma'aleh Film School curriculum offers a fascinating, rich and innovative program in videotherapy that is based on experience gained over the last decade from practical work in Ma'aleh’s Videotherapy Center, where film creativity is combined with group or individual therapy.
The Videotherapy Programs at Ma'aleh
Program for filmmakers in videotherapy skills – one year, three semesters, one day per week.
Program for therapists in videotherapy and cinema skills –one year, two semesters, one day per week.
The program is offered exclusively at Ma'aleh, and includes experts from the fields of cinema and therapy. Students who have completed all course requirements and are approved by the Academic Committee will receive a certificate of completion of the Videotherapy course.

The Program's Goal
To provide expertise in videotherapy treatment by learning the process of cinematic creation in combination with study of a comprehensive therapeutic method for treating individuals or groups.
Along with each student’s individual course work, the student will develop and strengthen his/ her abilities, and will learn new treatment methods that view the participant as creative, valuable and capable of self- healing.
