In Palestine in 1946, a young Holocaust survivor who has taken a new identity as an underground commander, feels threatened when another survivor, a long lost childhood friend, joins his unit.

In the pre-state Palestine of 1947, Eliav, who has changed his identity in order to escape the nightmare of the murder of his entire family in the Holcaust, is a commander in the underground supervising the arrival of illegal Jewish immigrants by sea. Yaakov, a long lost childhood friend, disembarks from an immigrant ship and joins Eliav's unit, threatening the fragile emotional shield that Eliav has built for himself.
